KCBAR Donates $500 to Port Gamble Musher
Port Gamble's Laura Daugereau returned home for a quick two-day stop after training in Stockett, Mont., for the Alaska Iditarod — the most prestigious dog sled race in the world.
Daugereau, presented a check for $500 by the Kitsap County Bremerton Athletic Roundtable at the organization's monthly board meeting on Thursday night, heads to Alaska for a rookie orientation this weekend.
Daugereau's trying to become the first woman from Washington state to compete in the grueling race, which starts March 1 in downtown Anchorage.
Bob Fredericks of the KCBAR challenged other community organizations and citizens to match the club's $500 donation. Daugereau estimated it will cost her about $25,000 to participate in the race.
